Sew Time Update:
Combined effort of OLPH and Holy Family
Our team of sew angels and friends have distributed 12,402 masks, 481 scrub caps and 802 ear savers - “Saving Lives 1 Mask at a Time” as of July 20! In addition, we have made 171 pillow cases for community needs. Please let us know If you would like to work on making any of these items and we will coordinate getting you supplies and patterns for easy pick up on our porches. For more information contact Barbara Harmel (barbara.harmel@gmail.com) or Pam Hines (hinesjp@verizon.net). Thank you for all your support in this effort.
Below are a few tips:
Below is an awesome idea that someone sent to help ease the pressure on “ears” when wearing the masks – using a 4” piece of ribbon and 2 buttons – a great use of your scraps of ribbon and buttons. An easy at-home project for those that can’t sew. Give them a try and if you need buttons or ribbon let us know:
If anyone asks to pay for masks or wants to make a donation – please ask them to instead make a donation to their local food pantry or the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry at OLPH as we don’t take any money for the masks that we distribute.
OLPH Food Pantry: Bless you all for your continued generosity and thank you to the folks still delivering to the pantry! So far in the months of March and April there have been 137 families with 492 family members receiving food curbside. Amount is determined by the size of the family but the pantry has been generous!
The pantry's latest need is boxed mac and cheese, cereal, medium bags of rice and canned fruit, along with lunch meat and cheese for sandwiches for kids and Lunchables in addition to what you have been bringing which is still essential. If you bring those items by, please ring the office bell so we can bring them Inside and refrigerate. Do not leave in the cart if no one answers. Due to the high demand for donations we have decided to put our blue grocery carts at the main Church entrances (top of the horseshoe driveway) Monday-Thursday from 9am-4pm and Fridays 9am-Noon (weather allowing and times subject to change). Remember to check the dates on any donations. The pantry cannot take any expired items!
Volunteers may be needed at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Wednesday & Friday from 10am-Noon to deliver the groceries curbside. Point of contact is Mary Carico at carico1317@gmail.com. If no access to email call the office at 443-203-1002.
Readers and Phone Chargers Needed: As patients are being admitted, it is often in a hurry. We are collecting readers and phone chargers so that patients can stay connected to their families and read when necessary. These items can be dropped off at the church office.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY: We are continuing to meet with families every week from our area who get emergency assistance from this fund, which is normally supported by donations to the poor boxes in our church. You can mail a check to support this fund, written out to “Holy Family” with “St. Vincent de Paul” on the memo line to “St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o Holy Family Parish, 826 West Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD 21035.
Lighthouse Shelter: Light House Shelter is in desperate need of food and cleaning supplies. To better assist them we are asking that rather then buy the items you write a monetary check directly payable to Light House Shelter, 10 Hudson St., Annapolis MD 21401. This will allow them to buy the materials needed online.

Below are a few tips:
- Homemade masks can be run through the “sterilizing cycle” of your dryers and should also be washed/dried after use.
- N95 masks – can be sterilized by placing in an oven at 170 degrees for 30 minutes (don’t use this method with homemade masks)
