Financial Stewardship

Picture
TAKE THE NEXT STEP:  Holy Family Church - A Community of Believers.  October 12th-13th is Stewardship Sunday.  Your generosity through the Sunday offertory each week enables us to continue to bring the love of Jesus to others.  Consider the impact your commitment to Holy Family has on our Parish and our greater community.  See the flyer to view how your modest increase will help and to view our Finance Report for Fiscal Year 2019.
WE’RE IN THE BLACK:
First of all, with regard to our overall spending and intake of funds as a parish 2018-2019, we were in the black.  That is good news.  We will be giving out handouts on this topic this weekend with specific numbers, etc.

THE DRIVEWAY:
Secondly, myself and our parish leadership have been discussing the construction a driveway and create a grassy field on the new land we have on the corner of 424 and Central Ave.  Which brings us to a question some parishioners have posed, that is:  Why build this driveway at all?

In our discussions on Finance Council and Pastoral Council, we have talked about how it will:

  1. Allow alternate access and egress from the campus in the case of an emergency.
  2. And allow easy access to the parish from the north.
  3. And reduce congestion at the 424/214 intersection at peak traffic periods since now all traffic would not have to go through that crossing.

Of course, in the end, I don’t believe that anything we do at Holy Family will take away all our traffic woes, but we do feel that to build this second driveway and entrance/exit to the parish grounds would be better than taking no action at all.

Having said that, we are faced with the need, in order to build this driveway, of raising a sum of perhaps $500,000 by the beginning of 2021:  That means in 15 months.

Last year we did raise almost $300,000 in our building & maintenance/2nd collection and we were hoping to just put away as much as we could of that collection to save up for the driveway and perhaps not have to have any special appeal to cover the costs of this driveway, but it looks like we will have to ask for some special help to get this project completed.

One reason is that we need to do up to $200,000 in new work on the existing parish center and church air handling units.  Initially we knew of this work needed, but we were contemplating doing expansion work on the church building and decided not to move forward on that work.  Now that we have decided to postpone, indefinitely, any expansion of our church, we now need to address those issues.

Also, quite simply, the cost estimates to complete the driveway/create a playing field, put in lighting and to put a sign on 424 have risen.

So, to support the funding for the driveway we are setting up a special fund that you can support right now – for the 2nd week of every month all the funds from the second collection will go to the driveway fund alone.  And I hope we can build up that fund as much as we can right now.  And anyone who wants to assist in our building up the funding for that project now, donations can be made to the driveway fund at any time, and we would appreciate them.

In the end, these are some of the questions that we are trying to tackle with the pastoral council and the finance council, along with the staff.  Please know that you can always contact the pastoral council through the website, by email, to express your thoughts.   Below is an image of the driveway on our new property with 424 going north on the right and with the church to the left.

God bless you!  Fr. Andy
