"(Let us)...put our families in God's hands, (for)...The family is the nearest hospital, the first school for the young, the best home for the elderly. The family...cannot be replaced by other institutions. It needs to be helped and strengthened." Pope Francis, July 6, 2015
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful”. Luke 6:36 Pope Francis says that mercy is "the beating heart of the Gospel". The spiritual works of mercy are: counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish the sinners, comfort the afflicted, forgive offenses, bear patiently those who do us ill and pray for the living and the dead. The corporal works of mercy are feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, healing the sick, welcoming the stranger, visit the imprisoned and bury the dead. View this website to see how communities of faith around the country are living mercy. http://www.wearesaltandlight.org/
AT THIS TIME....
Now that we are blessed to be with our loved ones at home for an extended period of time, it is important the our lives be filled with hope and faith.
I will try to keep this webpage updated with family information and activities.
Peace and God Bless you all! - Cyndi 2020-2021-2022
CREATE A SACRED PLACE IN YOUR HOME!
A Sacred space should be distinctly different from the rest of the house. It is a place to enter into prayer and should look different than your normal living space.
However, different does not need to mean expensive. The sacred space is typically a table-top set with religious items like: A Bible, A Crucifix, Prayer Cards, Rosaries, Candles, Statue of Mary or other saints and Holy Water. Have everyone in the family be part of the process of setting up your sacred place.
Once the sacred space is set up, the family can bless it with Holy water with the following prayer:“Heavenly Father, we ask you to Bless our sacred space. We ask for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on this space and on our family. Help us to grow closer to you and to each other. In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
Once in place, encourage all family members to use it.
Be patient with very small children and let them wander around, look through a board book or color. For children 4 and older, let them lead a prayer for the whole family. Keep prayer journals in the sacred space for family members to use privately. Little children should be encouraged to draw pictures in their journal.
CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD... We are holding Children's Liturgy during the 9:15 am mass at this time.
Even though we do not go to the church every Sunday "at this time", it would nice to still build up our volunteer base, so when we start going back we will be in full force! We can train you on email or an interactive app. Please email me if you are interested at familyministry@hfccmail.org.
Children's Liturgy of the word is held on Sundays at the 9:15 am and 11 am Masses. We are looking for adults and for youth (teenagers) to assist with this blessed endeavor. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is for ages 4 to 10.
NORA’S KNAPSACKS Nora Morris was a parishioner here at Holy Family and those of you that knew her will not be surprised when I tell you of her personal outreach to help others. Nora put together bags with granola bars, water and various other items and kept these bags in her car. She would drive around the less fortunate neighborhoods of Baltimore and would give them to people on the streets who appeared to be in need. She was a brave and caring person. Her courage has been an example for all of us. In honor of Nora’s outreach, we, at Holy Family, have begun putting together drawstring bags of our own. Keep one in your car. When you see someone who is in need (when you are stopped at a traffic light, walking in a parking lot, in your daily travels) you give them a bag. We call these bags Nora’s Knapsacks. We will have these bags available in the Narthex every day of the week for anyone who wishes to participate. They are empty bags (for you to fill) and information sheets for you to be part of this wonderful ministry.
So, now you will be prepared, for at some time in your week, or month, or year, you will hear Jesus’ words: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…”
