Reconciliation
Also known as: Confession or Penance

Confession Times:
Confessions are held in the confessional in the Church on
Wednesdays at 5:00 pm, AND Saturdays at 3:30 pm,
or by appointment.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation—also called Confession—is one of Christ’s most powerful gifts to us. Through it, we experience God’s mercy, healing, and new life.

More than just the removal of sin, Reconciliation is a personal encounter with the Risen Lord, who lifts us from the weight of sin and restores us to grace. In the presence of the priest—who stands in the person of Christ and in the heart of the Church—we are not judged, but welcomed back with love and joy.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9 (RSV-CE)

This is a sacrament of freedom and restoration—a moment when the Good Shepherd finds us, heals us, and brings us home.

“There is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” — Luke 15:7 (RSV-CE)

How to Go to Confession

If it’s been a while, don’t worry—God is ready to meet you in His mercy. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide:
  1. Examine your conscience – Reflect prayerfully on your thoughts, words, and actions.
  2. Enter the confessional – You may kneel behind the screen or sit face-to-face with the priest.
  3. Begin by saying: “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been [X amount of time] since my last confession.”
  4. Confess your sins – Be honest, brief, and clear.
  5. Listen to the priest – He may offer advice, encouragement, or spiritual guidance.
  6. Receive your penance – A prayer or act of charity to help you grow in grace.
  7. Pray an Act of Contrition – Expressing sorrow and your desire to turn back to God.
  8. Receive absolution – The priest will pray the words of forgiveness in Christ’s name.
  9. Go in peace – Thank God, and complete your penance soon after.

“Return to me with all your heart… for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.”
— Joel 2:12–13 (RSV-CE)
