Last weekend at the HF Church Picnic we connected with an HF parishioner – Elizabeth Grey (who comes all the way from Mt. Airy each week to attend mass). Elizabeth works as a nurse at a newly opened Oncology Treatment Clinic in Mt. Airy and was very interested in the sewing projects we provide to hospitals for cancer patients. We are super excited to announce that we are delivering 7 lap quilts that were made recently by Anne Maio and also a few hand stitched quilts from the estate of Laura R. (HF), as well as two neck pillows next week to her patients. In addition, Pam delivered 3 dignity bibs to a neighbor who is recovering from a recent stroke. “Ask and you shall receive…” (Luke 11:1-13). June 12 We had 22 sew angels attend our Summer Sew Retreat Day at Holy Family. We welcomed our newest sew angel – Azin and she brought a few little helpers. We completed 52 cinch sacks (drawstring bags) and Pam and her team of home sew angels are finishing up the remaining 8 to meet our goal of 60! These bags will accompany a pillow case, new pillow and beanie baby for each of the 60 children attending the upcoming Free Camp in Petersburg, VA. The sew angel door prize winners were Alice, Isabella and Marcy. A huge thank you to everyone that brought delicious lunch items to share at the retreat. Fun was had by all!! The below community items were collected this month from our home sewers and distributed:
Our Haiti Raffle Quilt “Mary’s Garden” made its debut at the HF Parish Picnic, and we raised $255 so far for the children in Haiti. Thanks Lynn and Barbara for selling tickets at the picnic. The winner of this quilt will be drawn on February 3, 2024 at the Haiti Bull Roast. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 and will be available at various parish events at all 3 parishes (OLPH, HF and OLS). This year’s quilt also includes a book about making a garden for Mary. For those that attended the Annapolis Quilt Show this weekend – we hope you noted a couple of our sew angels beautiful quilts in the show – both Anne and Evelyn are our super star quilt sew angels and we loved their quilts. |
