Sacraments

​The Sacraments are sacred signs of God’s grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church. They are the foundation of the Christian life, drawing us deeper into relationship with God and one another.

The Church groups the seven sacraments into three categories, each with a unique role in the life of faith:

1. Sacraments of Initiation
These sacraments welcome us into the Church and begin our journey of faith.

• Baptism: The first sacrament of initiation, Baptism cleanses us from original sin and makes us members of the Body of Christ.
• Eucharist: The source and summit of our faith. In the Eucharist, we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, uniting us more closely with Him.
• Confirmation: Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, Confirmation strengthens the grace of Baptism and equips us to live our faith boldly.

2. Sacraments of Healing
These sacraments offer God’s mercy, strength, and healing in times of spiritual or physical need.

• Reconciliation (Confession): Through the ministry of the priest, we receive God's forgiveness and the grace to begin again.
• Anointing of the Sick: Brings spiritual (and sometimes physical) healing, peace, and strength to those who are seriously ill, elderly, or preparing for surgery.

3. Sacraments of Service (Vocation)
These sacraments are directed toward serving others and building up the Body of Christ.

• Holy Matrimony: A sacred covenant in which a man and woman become a visible sign of Christ’s love for the Church.
• Holy Orders: The sacrament through which men are ordained as deacons, priests, or bishops to serve the Church.
