Haiti Rectory Project
The 1940’s rectory at St. Elizabeth of Hungary, our Sister Parish in Perodin, Haiti was destroyed by an earthquake. Since the time of the earthquake, Fr. Gilfrid, the pastor, and the parish deacon have been sleeping in a classroom in one of the school buildings which fortunately suffered no structural damage from the earthquake since it was built more recently to withstand earthquakes.
Before the earthquake, the rectory which was built some 70 years ago, was already showing cracks in its walls from earlier earthquakes. Seeing major cracks in the rectory walls, Fr. Gilfrid began working with an architect to draw up plans for the construction of a new rectory, which also serves as a parish office and meeting space for parishioners.
The cost of the new construction of the rectory is $128,000. Along with our parish, our neighboring parishes of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Our Lady of Sorrows are also each a sister parish with St. Elizabeth Parish. Collaborating with our two neighboring parishes, Fr. Rich Gray, their Pastor, and I believe that our three parishes collaborating together can raise the funds to build the new rectory. If a total of 256 families from our three South County Parishes give a $500 donation, we can raise the monies in less than a year. For example, one could choose to give $50 a month.
I invite you to join me in building the new rectory at our Sister Parish. If you are contributing with a check, please make it payable to Holy Family and write in the memo line “Haiti Rectory.” You can place your gift in the basket marked “Haiti Rectory Donation” which is on the table in front of the cross in the Narthex. If you have any questions, please contact me. In advance, I thank you for your support of this project which will bring hope to Fr. Gilfrid and the parishioners of our sister parish of St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
