Pastor's Message
January 28-29, 2023 - The 4th Sunday In Ordinary Time
For the past several weeks I have been meaning to thank you for the many wonderful Christmas presents that you gifted the children and families of St. Gregory the Great Parish in Baltimore. You helped the children have a wonderful Christmas!
A number of parishioners and Deacon Austin Hoodenpyle have commented to me that the translation of the gospel from the Book of Gospels (printed in 1984), sometimes has different wording than the gospel in our hymnal Breaking Bread. Our present Book of the Gospels was printed in 1984. To remedy this situation, we have ordered a new Book of the Gospels which is in the process of being printed so hopefully we will soon be receiving a new Book of the Gospels.
The Polar Bear Plunge is next Saturday, February 4th at Sandy Point State Park at the Bay Bridge. Our Holy Family Team, “The Holy Dippers,” is ready to raise funds for the Maryland Special Olympics. I thank the parishioners who have made donations to the members of our parish team. If you would like to make a donation of any amount, please go to the Homepage of our website at www.holyfamilychurch.com and see “Join Father Mike in the Polar Bear Plunge!” and click on plungemd.com. Next step, click on “Support a Plunger” and choose “Maryland Plunge” and search for Holy Dippers. See the names of our team members and donate or if you would like, you can make a check payable to Holy Family Church and write in the memo “Polar Bear Plunge.” I am sure the team members and I will have interesting and funny stories to share with you about our experience participating in this year’s Polar Bear Plunge.
Two events are coming which I want to highlight. There will be an evening of Basket Bingo held here at Holy Family this coming Friday, February 3rd to benefit our Holy Family Youth Ministry. The doors will open at 5:30pm and the games begin at 7pm. The cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. See more details in this bulletin, page 6 in the upper rt. corner column or call Joni MacDonald at 443-851-0290.
The second event is the 2023 Haiti Bull Roast which will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Edgewater (515 Loch Haven Rd.) next Saturday, February 4th from 5:30pm-9:30pm. The Bull Roast will benefit the Feeding & Education Program for the school children of our Sister Parish, St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Perodin, Haiti. The cost is $45 and includes dinner, beer and wine. Tickets are available at OLPH or online at www.olph.net. If you have any questions, please call Pam Hines at 410-279-3532 or email her at hinesjp@icloud.com. Additional details are in this bulletin, page 5, upper rt. corner column.
Blessings,
Fr. Mike
