Updates From Our Sister Parish
St. Elizabeth’s of Hungry in Perodin, Haiti
February 2024
Bonjour & Merci from our sister parish in Haiti. Fr. Benoit extends his prayers and continued thanks for our kindness and generosity on behalf of the children & parishioners of St. Elizabeth’s of Hungry in Perodin.
The current situation in Haiti continues to be frightening. Gang violence, an unstable political state and inhumane practices continue in the city areas. Much of the towns’ everyday functions like grocery stores, schools & banks have shut down or are sporadically open. In a recent regional archdiocesan meeting of the parishes supporting the Haiti ministry, we learned that only two schools supported by our region remain open, most likely due to their location in the higher elevations. St. Elizabeth’s is one of them. We are still fully staffed, serving 500+ students K-12 and the new Home Economics Program is underway. What a blessing for these families.
This ministry is only successful because of each of us. Once again, we “showed up” in a big way at our Haiti Bull Roast. It was a total sellout & we heard so many compliments regarding the food, music, silent auction items & the fellowship that was shared by many. We raised $17,000 for the children. This allows us to fund the feeding & education program through years end & into the next term. A big thanks to the Haiti committee, the volunteers for all their hard work, and to all that came to support this ministry. We mean it when we say, “we could not do this without you.”
Next up is the Haiti Quilt Bingo on the afternoon of April 27th at Holy Family. If you’ve never participated, this is your chance. Tickets SELL OUT quickly, so we urge you to buy them once available. You don’t want to miss this event!
